10 Benefits of CBD Over Pharmaceuticals

As CBD products have become more widely available, understood, and popular, more and more people have begun to use them in place of pharmaceuticals for a number of reasons:

1. Variety of Ways to Consume CBD

While most prescription and over-the-counter medications only have one method of administration (pill, liquid, injection, etc.), CBD can be consumed in a myriad of ways, including: smoking high-CBD marijuana strains or CBD-only flower, vaporizing, topical products, tinctures, oils, edibles, pills, isolate, and dabbing. Thus, depending on the ailment, people can choose the method of consumption that feels easiest, safest, and most effective for them.

2. Versatility

While a given pharmaceutical medication typically treats one type of medical issue, CBD has powerful anti-inflammatory properties that can be used to treat or offer relief from a huge variety of medical ailments. CBD is very commonly used for muscle and joint pain, as well as: acne and other skin issues, migraines and cluster headaches, anxiety, PTSD, depression, insomnia, epilepsy, Type 1 Diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, quitting smoking, addiction, dementia and other neurological disorders, and Multiple Sclerosis.

3. Side Effects

Many prescription medications come with potentially damaging side effects. In 1998, researcher at the University of Toronto (JAMA, “Incidence of adverse drug reactions…”) studied the frequency of series adverse drug reactions, collecting information from U.S. hospitals over the span of 30 years and found that patients had a 7% chance of having a drug reaction that required hospitalization, was permanently disabling, or resulted in death. An even more significant number of people experience mild to moderate side effects from their medication. For example, the anti-inflammatory medication Celebrex, used to treat symptoms of arthritis, has side effects that include: increased risk of heart attack or stroke, serious bleeding from the stomach and intestines, stomach/abdominal pain, vomiting, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, and slurred speech. By any standards, that is an extremely long list of side effects, and yet many commonly used over-the-counter medications have a list just as long.

On the other hand, CBD (also often used as an anti-inflammatory) carries none of these side effects. At worst, the side effects include minor complications like nausea, fatigue, and irritability, with zero fatal or even serious consequences. For many people experiencing pain, inflammation, or any number of symptoms, CBD products are thus a much safer alternative to pharmaceuticals.

4. Affordability

Patients in the United States pay more for medication than in any other developed nation in the world. On average, American spend $1,200 per year on prescription drugs (and sometimes much, much more). In addition, many Americans either do not have health insurance or their policies do not fully cover the medications they need. A study conducted in 2008 found that more than 26,000 Americans die each year because of lack of health insurance (BMJ, “More than 26,000…”). Given the rising prices of health insurance, many people are looking for alternatives, and naturally derived CBD products tend to be cheaper because they incur lower overheads in their production and their prices are driven by a competitive market, and not the monopolized markets of pharmaceutical drugs.

Depending on the individual’s insurance plan, a drug like Celebrex can cost upwards of $2,400 per year. In contrast, a year’s supply of c’bella Naturals CBD products like the 3,000mg tincture would cost upwards of $700, making the difference roughly $2,100 per year

5. Availability

Affordability and availability sometimes go hand-in-hand. For pharmaceuticals, cost isn’t the only factor to consider. Many drugs require a doctor’s visit and prescription, which is not accessible to everyone. And even to whom this option is accessible, it is often an added headache having to keep up with prescriptions. The question of where to buy CBD oil and other products, conversely, is an easy one to answer: they are readily available in many physical stores as well as online, with no additional steps required. CBD products do not contain any more than 0.3% THC per the 2018 Farm Bill and are completely non-psychoactive, with most CBD oils being hemp-derived or hemp oils with CBD. Thus, these products are completely legal to buy, sell, and use, and thus easy to obtain.

6. Reported Effectiveness

Data research firm Brightfield Group in partnership with HelloMD conducted an in-depth survey of over 2,400 patients comparing CBD to pharmaceuticals. When asked about the effectiveness of CBD compared to pharmaceuticals, roughly 60% of respondents said that CBD was more effective than the prescription medications they had tried or used regularly. Another 75% said that CBD was more effective than over-the-counter remedies.

7. No Chance of Overdose

According to the CDC, more than 750,000 people have died since 1999 from a drug overdose, and 2 out of 3 drug overdose deaths in 2018 involved an opioid. CBD, however, has not been implicated in a single overdose case. CBD is not lethal, even when consumed in large quantities.

8. Non-Addictive

Opioids are often prescribed for pain, especially post-surgery. According to Johns Hopkins, it only takes a couple of weeks to develop physical dependence on an opioid. On the other hand, CBD is non-addictive. In fact, a 2019 Mount Sinai study found that CBD reduces drug craving and anxiety in people with heroin use disorder. Thus, not only is CBD non-addictive in contrast to opioids, but it can possibly help treat addiction to opioids.

9. Health Benefits

Not only is CBD effective in treating a vast array of illnesses, but it may also have a range of other health perks. A high-quality, full-spectrum CBD product has a rich nutritional profile. Also, due to its plethora of health benefits, many skincare, health, and beauty companies have begun infusing their products with CBD.

10. All-Natural

Modern pharmaceutical drugs are typically produced from foreign synthetic chemicals, can have serious or lethal side effects, and can result in addiction or overdose. On the other hand, natural medicine contains compounds found in nature, even frequently naturally occurring within the body. The most common reason for using CBD products as an alternative treatment is its all-natural appeal. CBD or cannabidiol is a naturally occurring compound in the Cannabis sativa plant. All vertebrate species on earth have an endocannabinoid system (ECS), or the system that both produces its own cannabinoids and responds to cannabinoids found in external sources. Unlike THC, CBD contains no psychoactive properties, and is safe to consume without fear of addiction, overdose, or other dangerous side effects.

C’bella Naturals uses the purest, plant-derived ingredients available to develop proprietary formulations with a proven shelf-life in a DEA-approved facility. Not only does C’bella offer a variety of high-concentration CBD products, but it also uses its proprietary FDA-approved Micellar NanoParticle technology (MNP) to enhance the surface area for absorption up to a hundred-fold, leading to better absorption and superior products. This also means that products are comparatively more affordable, not only because they are priced well relative to the high concentration of CBD they contain, but also because their MNP technology ensures that more CBD will be absorbed and used by the body in each dose. All in all, C’bella strives to use the most natural ingredients to create a myriad of well-tested MNP products (using FDA-approved tests) that can be easily accessed, purchased affordably, and dosed safely. Its products provide optimal bioavailability, retention, stability, and shelf-life, offering all the benefits listed in this article and more.
